They were called
“caffè delle acque”, “coffee of waters”, because to get a
good coffee you need -good- water.
Nowadays we call
them simply“caffè”: in Venice you can find good caffè
everywhere, to drink something that is italian and hot in the
morning, to take a rest, or to meet good friends.
You could get a
@cappuccino (please.....only until 11 am!!!!!), a macchiato ( espresso
and a dash of milk) or, and this is possibility number ONE for
me....a macchiatone!!!!!!
It's smaller than a
cappuccino and bigger than a macchiato. It tastes soooooo good!!!!!
Macchiatone is
typical venetian, if you go to Rome or to Florence they won't really
know what a macchiatone is..... :-D ❁❁
Hot chocolate is
another very good thing to drink! Brown, warm, creamy,
velvety.....chocolate is a must when you are in Venice!
Famous cafès in
Venice are Caffè Florian, on Saint Mark's Square, The Caffè was
patronised in its early days by famous people including CarloGoldoni, Goethe
and Casanova,
who was no doubt attracted by the fact that Caffè Florian was the
only coffee house that allowed women. Later Lord
Byron, Marcel
Proust, and Charles
Dickens were frequent visitors.
Caffè Quadri, on
the other side of Saint Mark's Sqare, the “French” cafè in
Venice.
Vips that sat at
their tables are figures such as Stendhal, Dumas, and Marcel Proust.
In more recent times people have stopped at the Paintings of music,
politics and entertainment as like Robert de Niro, Woody Allen,Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt .
So now.....what are
you waiting for?!?!?! Let's come to Venice and drink a macchiatone
and a chocolate!!!!!
